This was a great presentation covering different available free technologies on the internet. After viewing this presentation I am wondering how I will be able to implement some of the resources that were discussed. I plan to check out all of the websites that were discussed and become more familiar with each one.

In terms of my personal development I feel that I have gained some knowledge of new opportunities to incorporate technology into my lessons that have the potential to positively impact a variety of students. In the presentation she talked about some of the at risk students being excited about some of the assignments that incorporated various technologies.

I am going to apply this new information in my classroom in a variety of ways. The first idea that came into my mind was opening the option of creating a cartoon for our upcoming Mole Day projects that the students are doing for Mole Day. I also plan to explore the possibility of a podcast for one of my special need students who has difficulty with a written test. The option of a Zoho show over the power point presentations are going to also be opened to students for presentations because I have many students who do not have access to power point but would be able to excel with a program such as Zoho.

Session Summary: This was a great session that discussed incorporating cell phones into student lessons. It began with a discussion of how cell phone usage has increased in just the past few years and how it will continue to increase in the future. Our teens are using cell phones more than ever so why not find a good educational use for cell phones that can help increase understanding in the class room. The speaker talked about how cell phones are the most engaging tool for students especially with all of the features that are now available. The session went on to give different lesson ideas utilizing different cell phone functions.

Questions: The things I questioned was the security of cell phone assignments and a concern about students that might not have cell phones.

Professional Development: This could be a good avenue for professional development. It would be convenient to be able to access student work from a cell phone or be able to send an assignment to a cell phone.

Possibilities: I plan to assign a photo blogger assignment to my environmental science class. This could save the time and expense of a field trip if I have students spot certain items and create a photo page from their cell phone to a site like Flicker. The session also mentioned a site called Mobiode.com where the students can take a survey or poll. This is also a possible assignment for my environmental science class. I am thinking a student created survey about pollution control. For my chemistry students I am going to encourage a text message review session and maybe give some bonus points for either texting a question or answer during the finals review week.

This presentation was focused on the use of technology in the schools and class rooms. There were several students who were interviewed for their opinion about how technology will be used in the future of education. Several of them believed that while technology will be used to a greater extent in the class room it will not ever replace the traditional class room. They also discussed the use of pod casting and blogging as means of better communication in the class room.

The only thing I questioned with this presentation was the obvious lack of female students. I only recall one female student in the interviews. Does this indicate an imbalance of gender in the technology area? If so then maybe we should also be focusing on more female involvement when we incorporate technology into our class room.

I cannot pull much for professional development from this session.

I have in the past incorporated technology into my class room and I plan to continue to incorporate more technology in the future. Because of the lack of girls that struck me so obvious in this presentation I plan to pay more attention to the female students when assigning a technology based assignment. I keep hearing about pod casting and blogging in many of the sessions I have listened to. I plan to research a little more and definitely assign a pod casting project. I am also planning to utilize blogging for the upcoming semester final study sessions.

Summary: This presentation was about a project that was conducted through a grant. The project was conducted in Pinellas county at three different schools. The schools included an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school. There was 109 teachers involved in this program. All of the teachers was given adequate time and resources to produce a six week program that would consist of curriculum that was to be used to teach students of different grade levels. The students would interact with each other because this was to be a cross age as well as a cross curriculum program. They decided on the subject area of science but also incorporated other subject areas. The project was very successful and after the project was complete some of the teachers continued with the cross class collaboration.

Questions: I would be interested to know if there was increased learning for the students with this approach. I would think the learning and retention of knowledge would both be greater because of the raised interest level.

Professional Development: This type of cirriculum would be very beneficial to professional development because teachers would have to work together. By having to work together teachers would advance their own professional knowledge.

Possibilities: I absoultly love the idea of high school students working with lower school students. I can see benefits for both. I am planning a fourth grade science day where my honor chemistry students and the honor biology students will set up stations and teach the fourth graders about science. These stations will also allow the fourth graders to have a hands on science experience in an actual lab. I am also going to look at the possibility of collborating with some of the middle and elementary school teachers to allow some of my science students to teach a few classes to the lower school students. This will also allow me more collaboration with teachers outside of my subject area.
