Session #1 (Concept Map - Gliffy)

Name of Session: Organizational Learning and Technology Collide
Conference Year and Strand: 2009, Leading the Change
Session URL: http://k12onlineconference.org/?p=450

Summary:

This was a brief overview of how to adapt Argyris’s theories to lesson planning and evaluation on a practical level. Basically, effective planning comes from starting with a general global goal and linking it with a local goal. (I see this as linking a practical life skill with classroom learning.) If learning on both levels did not take place then you contemplate the disparity. This contemplation process is the key of the theory. You either re-evaluate your action strategy (how the lesson was carried out), called single-loop learning, or re-evaluate your guiding variables (the bigger picture learning goal), called double-loop learning.

Questions/ideas for further exploration:

Honestly, this seems to be what we usually do after a lesson without ever knowing the flashy names of “Theories of Action”, “Espoused Theory,” and “Theory in Use.” For most educators, this process is second nature.

Personal Professional Development Gains:

I was encouraged to spend more time reflecting after a "mediocre" lesson to deem what went right, what went wrong and why.

Application Ideas:

§ I am going to evaluate our current AP registration system.
§ I am going to evaluate why our students don’t do well on mathematics standardized testing.
§ I am going to evaluate why I can’t seem to get the members of the golf team to self-practice.

Session #2 (Digital Collage/Poster - Glogster)

This session tells that every teacher should have their own website. Reasons and resources for website templates are given.

Questions/ideas for further exploration:

After viewing this session I am fully convinced that I need to develop a website for my classroom.!

Personal Professional Development Gains:

I see the potential and the benefits of having my own web page. After seeing the number of available web page building help sites I feel much more comfortable starting the task.

Application Ideas:

  • I will make a website for my math classroom by the end of the summer.
  • I will then pursue making a website for my volleyball team.
  • I will then pursue making a website for my golf teams.
